With the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI taking effect on Thursday,
all is now set for the emergence of a new Catholic pontiff. The College
of Cardinals, made up of about 120 cardinals from across the world,
would converge on the Vatican, go into the Conclave to pick a new
spiritual leader for the largest Christian faith in the world.
Pope Benedict, now designated Pope Emeritus, had given notice of his
resignation on February 10, 2013, citing failing health as reason. He is
the first Pope to have resigned after 600 years and the second to have
quit office in the history of Catholic Church.
With Easter coming up towards the end of the month, it is expected
that a new Pope would emerge ahead of the celebration, as the chosen one
would celebrate the Easter mass.
